Felicia Mackay
Felicia’s journey into working with horses has been unique. Growing up in Ohio, the main extent of Felicia’s animal interactions were with dogs. Her beloved family canine, Rascal, laid the foundation for her dedication to rehabilitating rescue animals.
After moving to Virginia, Felicia welcomed two rescue dogs into her life — Quinn and Millie. Both required extensive rehabilitation and training, which sparked Felicia’s passion for working with animals through a trauma-informed lens. Working with horses was the next step.
Felicia’s work with VRSVA was her first experience with horses, but she quickly discovered that her background with canine rehabilitation was complementary to working with equine patients. Felicia believes that patience, clear communication, and building trust are all key to successful rehabilitation outcomes.
Felicia also discovered a joy for riding and is currently focused on building a bond with her equine partner, Paris.
