Kiko: Rehabilitation Following Surgery for a Growth Deformity

Kiko was rescued from RACC by her current owners. A the time of adoption it was found that she had genu valgum — a growth deformity — in both hind limbs.

Kiko underwent surgery on both affected limbs and presented to VRSVA for rehab shortly after.  She followed a 12-week rehabilitation protocol consisting of laser therapy, laser acupuncture, therapeutic ultrasound, body work, exercise, and underwater treadmill therapy. During her rehab program, Kiko was able to gain significant range of motion in both hind limbs and improve her overall strength, body conformation, and posture!

She now has more energy and is able to play with other dogs in her household! Kiko’s owners were incredibly committed to her success, and with the help of our canine rehab therapists, Kiko has been given an opportunity to lead a near-normal life!
