Megan Hammond DVM
Dr. Hammond grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia, and spent her childhood riding and showing horses. Her inspiration for a medical career stems from her family — her father is a physician and her grandfather was a veterinarian who helped to found the Virginia-Maryland School of Veterinary Medicine.
After graduating from the University of Virginia, Dr. Hammond attended the Virginia-Maryland School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2010. She completed a year-long internship at Woodside Equine Clinic in Ashland, Virginia, and stayed on as an ambulatory associate veterinarian for the next 10 years. During this time, Dr. Hammond developed interests in emergency care, ophthalmology and lameness. She completed her equine chiropractic training in 2013 at Parker University in Dallas, Texas, and subsequently completed acupuncture training at the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine in 2016.
Dr. Hammond has served on the boards for the Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (VVMA) and the Virginia Association of Equine Practitioners (VAEP). She has actively worked with the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) since 2011.
In 2021, Dr. Hammond began working at VRSVA, excited to expand her scope of practice with a focus in rehabilitative care. She enjoys using her background in lameness, chiropractic and acupuncture as a part of rehabilitative medicine. She values getting to know each rehab horse and having the ability to reassess them each day during their recovery.
Dr. Hammond lives in Charlottesville, Virginia, with her husband and three children. Together they enjoy hiking and taking trips to the beach as a family.
